Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed if qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA Policy.
• Degree of MD or equivalent from an accredited medical school.
• Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
• Residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification. Residency must be approved by ACGME, AOA, or deemed equivalent by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.
• Residents in accredited programs are eligible for appointment as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Certification in Addiction Psychiatry or Addiction Medicine.
• DEA Waiver to Prescribe Buprenorphine.
• Experience in treating Opioid Use Disorders.
• Preferred: ABPN Addiction Board Certification.
• Physical ability to perform all activities of the position.

Duties

• This is an open continuous announcement; qualified applicants will be referred weekly.
• Provide healthcare services to veterans at the Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Healthcare System, including psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
• Refer patients to ancillary or specialty services as needed.
• Document all clinical activities in CPRS on the day of service, complying with VA policies and accreditation standards.
• Prescribe medications according to formulary, with exceptions only when clinically indicated.
• Serve as treatment and consulting psychiatrist on the Pain Management Clinic Team.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including providing psychiatric consultation and supporting the VA's total rewards package, which includes incentives, benefits, and work schedule details.
