Job Title: Human Resources / Safety Coordinator

Location: McGregor, MN

Company: Savanna Pallets

Job Type: Full-Time | Salaried or Hourly (Based on Experience)

Travel: Required between multiple sites within Minnesota

Position Summary

The Human Resources / Safety Coordinator is a key member of the Savanna Pallets team, responsible for leading both HR and safety functions across four operational locations. This hybrid role is ideal for someone who is experienced in manufacturing or construction environments and can engage confidently with a blue-collar workforce. The coordinator will help foster a compliant, safe, and productive work environment while promoting employee engagement and upholding the company’s culture and values.

Key Responsibilities Human Resources Management
  • Lead recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes at the McGregor facility and support hiring across all locations.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in compliance with legal standards.
  • Administer compensation, benefits, and employee incentive programs.
  • Oversee performance management processes, including job descriptions, goal-setting, and reviews.
  • Provide guidance to managers on employee relations, conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
  • Monitor and manage employee leave programs, including FMLA, vacation, and sick leave.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local labor laws.
Safety Program Oversight
  • Develop, implement, and monitor safety programs, policies, and training that comply with OSHA and industry standards.
  • Conduct site safety audits, identify hazards, and ensure timely corrective action.
  • Lead new hire safety orientation and recurring safety training across all locations.
  • Investigate incidents and injuries, maintain OSHA records, and develop corrective action plans.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for safety-related concerns, ensuring quick response and resolution.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness procedures and ensure employee readiness.
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Stay current on HR and safety regulations and adjust company policies accordingly.
  • Manage workers’ compensation claims and return-to-work coordination with supervisors and insurance providers.
  • Help develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to protect the organization and its assets.
Culture, Communication & Leadership
  • Support department managers and site leadership with HR and safety policy implementation.
  • Serve as a liaison between leadership and employees, fostering open communication and trust.
  • Represent Savanna Pallets at company functions and employee-related events as needed.
  • Collaborate on HR and safety budgeting and cost tracking.
  • Participate in strategic planning to support growth, compliance, and employee engagement.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in human resources, safety coordination, or a similar role in a manufacturing, construction, or industrial environment.
  • Working knowledge of employment law, OSHA regulations, and HR best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to earn trust and provide sound guidance.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and HRIS systems (preferred).
  • OSHA certification or equivalent safety training is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel between company locations.
Working Conditions
  • Work is split between office and manufacturing environments.
  • Must be comfortable in loud, dusty, or variable-temperature environments.
  • Full-time position with potential for health benefits.
  • Travel to other Savanna Pallets locations required regularly.
